Ask the Foot Doc – Exercising with a Toe Fracture

Question:Toe Fracture

I injured my foot and had an x-ray.  I was told I fractured my toe.  What exercises can I do?  I would like to still do cardio workouts.   Thanks!

Answer:

It depends on the severity of the toe fracture.  For a minor, stable toe fracture, splint the toe and wear a stiff, supportive shoe during workouts.  Low-impact exercises using an elliptical machine or a recumbent bike are good options.  Swimming is also very low-impact and great for cardio.  Check with your doctor before beginning any exercises.
